Tasty Tuesday: Pouch Prep

Ok, so I love love loved making homemade baby food when Bam Bam transitioned into solids. I was always in the kitchen mixing, smashing and doing a puree. Somehow as he grew older and went to table food, I started picking up food pouches…well actually he started picking them up in the grocery store.

Yes, I was that mom that would give him one to keep him quiet while I finish my shopping. img_2070I would always taste it first to make sure it was good, didn’t have that “stale” taste that package products have and of course reading every single ingredient. Having to leave my cart in the middle of the store because my kid had an allergic reaction was definitely the last thing on my shopping list!

I only stuck to two brands, one at Kroger’s and one at Aldi’s, but for some reason his body started rejecting the pouches. I’m pretty sure that there is some type of preservatives that are included and not necessary mentioned on the packages. So I totally stopped buying them, especially the blended ones that had more than one food group. I found that when I just purchased the applesauce, he was totally fine. Something about the blended foods, his body just didn’t like.

So now its time for Pebbles to start solids and I’m approaching the prep a little differently. I purchased the Little Sprout Food Station and the Kiddzo Reusable Food Pouches on Amazon to get me started and back into the swing of prepping.

Yesterday, I skinned and boiled a few sweet potatoes and pears. I left them both sit in a little of the water to actually retain as much flavor as possible. My goal was to create dual fruit/veggie pouches for Bam Bam and then single servings of each for Pebbles.

So, after a power nap, a few loads of clothes…I got into prep mode! Just using one pear and two sweet potatoes I was able to fill two pouches and, make two servings of sweet potatoes and a single serving of pears for Pebbles.

img_2142Definitely pleased with my new gadget! It was simple to put together and even easier to fill the pouches.

Not to mention I got my reusable refills for a little under $20 for a pack of 50.

Score for Mum! Considering pouches are between $1-2.50 in the stores and no telling how long they have been sitting on the shelves.

The other plus about these reusable pouches are their size…they are much larger than the ones that you can buy at the store.

Needless to say, Mum will be rocking out pouches with all kinds of delicious fruits and veggies for The Duo!

Well Hello 2017!

Soo I took a little hiatus…or maybe it’s a slow creep into the new year. Nope it was definitely the 3 weeks of cooties that the kids and I had right after Christmas. Totally took me way down and altered my focus slightly!

But I’m back! Woot Woot!! I believe that 2017 is my year to make somethings happen, to really make an impact within the parenting community and fall back in love with myself!

I hope that you also have a the intent to personally do something great and become a better version of yourself! There is always room to grow and be the best person that you can be!

img_1895 I plan to spend more time with my children, to restore my self-esteem and kick postpartum depression in the throat!

I want to travel more and stop waiting for other people to hop on board! I totally realized that I have two co-pilots now, so we’ll definitely be making some moves this year and years that God will continue to bless us with thereafter.

Overall, I just want to do and achieve all the things that I said I wanted to do and didn’t in 2016! 🙂

Product Review: PepBaby Stretchy Car Seat Cover

So I totally have a new mommy gadget that I’m sooo in love with! I’ve literally been wanting one of these for weeks now! Pebbles doesn’t like anything over her face while I’m trying to shield her the cold wind and has no hesitation to grab the blanket or push it off her face.

When the opportunity to review the PepBaby Stretchy Car Seat Cover became available, I jumped right on it! If you don’t have one get one! I’m one of those moms that tries to get the most usage out of a product… so I’ve used it for its intended purpose as a car seat cover, I’ve also used it as a nursing cover while breastfeeding her in public. Because it’s so soft, I used it as a blanket one day when I forgot hers in the car. It truly has been a great accessory and I will be purchasing another one as a back up. Not to mention, I can also use it to cover the shopping cart…well when it’s just her and I.

Pebbles also enjoys it…she often rubs the softness while nursing and I believe the black & white stripes must be visually stimulating because she gets excited when I put it over her.

So thumbs up PepBaby! You have won my love as a loyal customer!!! 🙂

*Disclaimer: I received a promo code to purchase this product at a discounted price, all views and opinions are my own.

Tasty Tuesday: Tuna Pasta Salad

So I use to be really focused on my meal prep before I got pregnant with Pebbles, now you think it would be easier for me to make a bunch of meals and store them away.

But because I love cooking and its very therapeutic for me, I was unable to flourish my love while on bed rest. 3 months later…I’m focused and working on my #OperationSnapBack.

So to kick start the week, I made a Tuna Pasta Salad using the following ingredients:

1 cup of vegetable spiral noodles

1 cup of canned albacore tuna

1/2 cup of diced tomatoes with basil and garlic

pinch of parsley

pinch of pepper and garlic salt

tsp of lemon vinaigrette dressing

Stay tuned to see what else I will make this week. 🙂

Product Review: Kindred Bravely Nursing Bra

Ok, so the most difficult thing that I have found while nursing… is not nursing itself but finding the perfect nursing bras. I’m 2 years into nursing and I have yet to discover one that I truly like…until now. I received Kindred Bravely’s Seamless Sublime Nursing Bra and when I say my prayers have been answered!!!!

I mean just that, it’s soft and the fact that there are no seams makes it that much more comfortable. I can wear it all day and not feel a thing! The  nursing pads actually cup the entire breast versus just the front. The fit is perfect and true to size and the clasp is easy to snap with little to no difficulty when Pebbles is literally pulling my shirt with aggression.

I must say, it has my stamp of approval and I will definitely be trying to figure out how to get my hands on more! If you are nursing and looking for that ideal bra, you have to check this one out. Kindred Bravely also have a variety of other bras to choose from, as well as clothing that makes mommying a lot easier.

Disclosure:  I received the Kindred Bravely Seamless Sublime Nursing bra free as a member of PTPA, however my views and opinions are my own.

Product Review: The L’Oreal EverCurl VoxBox

So I’m a member of Influenster! If you haven’t heard about about Influenster, check it out and thank me later!

I truly love the site! It’s perfect because you can check out the reviews of a particular product before purchasing it. Products ranging from a type of milk to a type of conditioner, just put it in the search bar and here what people have to say!

img_1213Before the holidays, I received the L’Oreal EverCurl VoxBox! I was too pumped to finally received it!

Unfortunately, I was unable to try it right away, as I had just got my hair straightened the day before.

But no worries, we are a family of naturals, so I was able to have my brother try the products out! He’s very particular on what he uses on his hair, so he was the perfect candidate. As I’ve heard a lot of great things about the product thus far.

It lathers very well and adds a good amount of moisture, which is extremely important for natural hair. img_1600There are a lot of products out there, that actually strip your hairs natural moisture, resulting in using a combination of different products to re-hydrate your hair.

The good thing about the EverCurl is that its an actual system. From the washing to styling, they have your covered.

Now if you aren’t naturally curling, L’Oreal has also released similar systems for various hair types. It just so happen that before I received my box, I stumbled upon the new line…want to know the best part?! It was on sale! So if you’re interested in checking it out, go to your local Kroger’s or check online to see if you can catch the sale too!

Disclosure: We were provided the L’Oreal EverCurl Vox Box set free, as a member of Influenster, all opinions are our own.

Christmas on the Lord’s Day

It never seems to amaze me how fast Christmas actually comes and goes! You are literally scrambling around to make sure everyone on your list has their gifts and that you’re able to see everyone during that special day. But this year, was different, actually being able to attend church Christmas morning was a humbling experience. I didn’t care about the presents, my children did not run down the steps on Christmas morning to a room full of toys, we dressed in our Sunday best and headed off to celebrate Christ.

Now, don’t misunderstand what I’m saying…my children spent the morning before opening gifts and enjoy the fruits of their parents hard work  and the labor we put in to make sure their smiles were huge!

But my point is, this year I was able to actually appreciate the true meaning of CHRISTmas and teach my children the same. I got them what they needed and a few things that we thought they should have… but most of all we spent the weekend with family creating memories and actually in worship.

Providing my children with a spiritual foundation is more important to me than what kind of toys are in their playroom. What’s in their heart and the way they carry themselves, is more important to me than new clothes or shoes that they may have opened. The beauty of Christmas to my family is not patiently waiting to see what a man that only comes once a year got for them, but to appreciate the blessings that Christ has placed in our lives on a daily basis in order to shower them with gifts on this one day. To not only focus on this one day, but to appreciate everything that they have before the holiday and everything they will have after.

What did Christmas falling on a Sunday mean to you?

Disclaimer: My children do not and will not know who Santa is? The Captain and I are their “Santa Claus”..I wear the red hat that’s associated with all things Christmas without the emphasis on Santa Claus.

The Reason WHY…

My Biggest WHY …..The Duo!!! For some reason Postpartum hit me like a ton of rocks this go round… 🎭… When I thought I was ready to focus on my cafe…my depression and road blocks outweighed my passion…then I realized that I needed to refocus my goals and make new plans. I took a temp job, while trying to find an outlet that will allow me to build my confidence and finances up so I can open my cafe.

That search led me to ItWorks 💚, this partnership not only allows me the time I need to get myself together mentally, and financially but also physically. Not to mention the new friends I have who keep me inspired in the process. I realized that I not only need to be healthy on the outside but also the inside, being well is the effort that you put forward to living a healthier lifestyle. I’m not only striving to make a difference in my life, but also whomever else I can take with me!

So if being healthier is on your new years resolution, join my “Mix It Well” 90-day challenge with me!

Believe in the Things You Want

So I have embarked on a new journey in my life, and when I tell you it has been life-changing in a matter of days, I mean just that!

Never have I been a part of something that seeks to literally change every aspect of my life. My mind, my body, my household, my faith, my finances. Talk about a total life package.

I have continuously tried to scratch off goals that are on my “career specified bucket list” and what I’m experiencing now is not even a part of it. Which is actually really shocking, the things that I have wanted to achieve, were before I became a parent.  I had this idea in my mind, that these are things that I need to do, so that my children can have a better life. But now that I have my children, I have goals on my list so that my entire family can have a better life.

I have taken “me” and “them” out of the equation and focusing on “us” as a whole. To not only provide for them financially, to not only given them my time but also to give them a solid foundation of living a life of wellness. To be “happy” is not the end all be all. My other half, tells me that “being happy” is an emotion that can change but living in a “life of happiness” is a series of decisions that are made. I did not understand what he was saying until recently. I’m continuously harping on him about wanting to be happy and how important that it is, but I did not realize that I had to decide to be happy not just want it. That I had to make decisions in my life that were beneficial to him and our children because they are what make me happy. That I had to seek out my future and decide on what my next step was so that what I want becomes what I have.

I watched a YouTube video today, it touched on key topics that I needed to hear as a newbie in my business. But what struck to me the most was this scripture:

“Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that we receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:24). That was all that I needed to hear to understand that I had to believe in myself and make the right decisions on a daily basis in order to live a life of happiness.
